Dinner at the top of a power station
When you’ve spent hours climbing the chimney of a coal-fired power station in order to stop it belching out tonnes of climate wrecking CO2, there’s nothing more appealing than a big bowl of pasta and salad. It’s not the most gourmet of food, or the poshest of locations, but you can bet it will be one of the most appreciated meals of the climbers’ lives.

How this gift works ...
Direct actions are about being there in person to stop an environmental crime from taking place. The proposed new power station at Kingsnorth in Kent would emit about the same amount of CO2 as the world’s 30 poorest countries, and when we shut down the existing power station in 2007 we brought the issue of whether it needs to be built firmly to the front line. As well as careful planning and logistics, actions like this need a large amount of equipment and supplies, and food is something you definitely don’t want to leave off the list when you’re potentially spending days at the top of a chimney.
